The global community has reached a decisive moment where the health of forest ecosystems is inextricably linked to the survival of our civilization. As the world grapples with the intensifying climate crisis, forests have emerged not only as a critical buffer against global warming but as the primary engine for a sustainable, bio-based economy. With the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework as our guide, the international community is racing to halt deforestation and enhance carbon sequestration.
China has emerged as a world leader in forest restoration and innovative governance. As the country moves toward its "Dual Carbon" goals (peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060), forestry has been elevated to a national strategic priority.
To further promote discussions on sustainable forest management in response to climate change, and to share ideas and best practices at the international, regional, and national levels—particularly on key topics such as the role of sustainable forestry, forest transition, pathways toward a lowcarbon and green economy, value realization of forest ecological products, and the forest bioeconomy—Beijing Forestry University and Division 9 of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), through organization by the School of Economics and Management of Beijing Forestry University, will jointly to hold “The 5th International Forum on Forest Policy and Economics: Sustainable Forestry: Strategies for Climate Resilience and Carbon Neutrality” from 16(th) to 20(th) October 2026 in Beijing.
